Paddle2Live

So my dear love/old roomie ERICA showed me this.  Pretty amazing.
So this is an amazing story...

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Sept. 1, 2010—The first annual “PADDLE2LIVE—150 Miles 4 Cancer” fundraiser solo water paddling endurance event, an epic 150-mile journey from Santa Barbara to Newport Beach by cancer survivor Jack Marshall Shimko, will take place Thursday, Sept. 23 through Saturday, Oct. 2.  Paddle boarding is a surface water sport in which an athlete on a long surfboard propels himself or herself along by a swimming motion of the arms while kneeling or lying prone on the board.

Shimko, 30, a Newport Beach native, avid waterman and outdoor enthusiast, is currently recovering from Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the part of the human body’s immune system known as the lymphatic system.  He was diagnosed with the disease just days after his 29th birthday.  After months of chemotherapy and other treatments, he has successfully battled the cancer and is currently in remission.

also check out paddle2live.org for more info and how to donate.

He is sponsored by Quicksilver, and is just a beast.  Its cool how he also had Hodgkin's...
All this to raise awareness for cancer. Amazing.

Jumped the Gun

My roomie/bestie and I LOVE CHRISTMAS...
maybe a little too much...
We made a countdown chain with 65 days till Christmas...
I think we jumped the gun a little.  And though this chain makes us oh so very happy, it keeps us grounded knowing how long it really is till CHRISTMAS.

the C word...

 STORY TIME...
Once upon a time there was a 20 year old girl named Court...
One day she found HUGE lumps on her neck....

So she took a fun trip to the ER...
And waited...and waited...
got a CT scan and about 100,000, lbs of blood drawn...
And left knowing nothing 8 hours later...
But little did she know....
She was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma...Stage 3
A port-a-cath was surgically placed in her chest so she could start chemo right away!
Chemo treatments began September 3, 2010
<3 Friends and fam always came along....
Good thing she brings NUM NUMS to chemo...
Now this right here is actual documentation of chemo being pumped into the port-a-cath WHILE listening to the Doc....impressive I know.
P.S.
Thanks momma for documenting all the fun times.  ;)

.cREATION.

Life has been Crazy...
and things have been Changing...
Today I decided to actually start my blog.  I realized that many things in my life begin with the letter C. Courtney, Cancer, Cross Country...I could go on for days!  This whole idea started somewhat as a joke...I have had the idea for quite sometime...and well...here is my attempt at documenting this Crazy time in my life...
